It's good to be 5!!!

Here @ the Knighton house, we're not huge fans of cake. We've stuck birthday candles into all sorts of things. One year Max just wanted ice cream...so I was super lazy and just stuck candles right into the carton. (Doug will never let me live that one down.) This year Carson opted for crunch cookies and ice cream.

What are crunch cookies? Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough-Choc Chips+Crunch Bar=Crunch Cookies

Left-Over Halloween candy to the rescue!!!!

That scored me some big-time points. My kids think I am so clever and the best mom in the world (I have to write that b/c all my children are reading this as I type). I think they secretly think that I am Super Woman, but just play it cool because they don't want me to get a big head. So instead, they say things like, "yuck!" when I try a new recipe. They are just here to keep me humble...Thank goodness there are 6 of them!

They made it!!!!

Doug and Tanner made it through a night of camping in 29 degree weather. I was so worried that they would be cold and not sleep at all, but was pleasantly surprised when they arrived home with all their fingers and toes intact. Yea!!!

Tonight I came to a sad realization (once again) that I'm getting old. I flipped on the TV for a little bit of background noise while I cleaned up the kitchen. I flipped through the our vast selection of channels, 4 to be exact, and settled in on a re-run of Oprah, not because I'm a fan (I gave up on her years ago when her shows, in my humble opinion, started to get more and more trashy) but because Lionel Richie was on and he was going to sing!

Did I just admit that I like Lionel Richie?

Oh, Yeah!!!! (I like Barry Manilow too.)

So, he was on to promote the big remake of We Are The World. They are celebrating the 25th anniversary...what?!?! That couldn't be!!! I remember when that song was made. That couldn't have been a QUARTER OF A CENTURY ago. Where has my life gone???

Anyway, I was pleased that he was going to sing. Did I already say that? Sorry. I was husband-less tonight and needed a little "feel-good" music. I must say I was very disappointed that ol' Lionel only sang 2 ballads. I felt so cheated. YouTube to the rescue. I went straight to the computer to see/hear the new version of WATW (yuck) and then cleaned my ears out with the original version, along with some Richie favorites.

Now to the store for some prune juice and oat bran flakes.

By the way, they should've just stuck with the original. The new version was a painful experience. ;)

Laws of Physics at Work

Boy+Stairs=1 Less Tooth To Brush

My beloved 5th born (wow, that makes it sound like I've got lots of kids!!!) has decided that somersaults (unintended) are a pretty quick (but risky) way to go down the stairs. I tell ya, this kid is going to be lucky if he doesn't have dentures before he's thirty.

It's all in the name

(Tanner sporting his new hairdo...he didn't even get mad at me this time!)

When Tanner was 5 he informed us that he was changing his name to Turbo. Turbo Tanner. Yeah, that sounds great. I've always enjoyed alliteration, but he wanted to be just plain Turbo. You just can't argue with a 5 year old about his name change, so just plain Turbo it was. He liked it for a while, but finally decided he was ready to be Tanner again.

Flash forward to 2010. Today Tanner tells us he wants to be called Jobs.

I ask, "Why Jobs?"

He says, "Because I do a lot of jobs around here."

(You see, the taskmaster around here has been adding to the chore chart lately. The troops are thinking the child labor laws are being violated. I say it just helps them sleep better at night.)

While laughing, I say, "Then you should call me Jobs Jobs!"
